The writer has a fresh way of intertwining the love story of fictional characters Jack and Diane with real historical events including the Iran hostage crisis as well as their direct and indirect experiences with world leaders such as Jimmy Carter, The Shah of Iran and Saddam Hussein. It gave an interesting perspective on how our past government's policies helped shape the current situation in the Middle East and how future administrations have not learned from their mistakes. It kept my interest from the first page to the last.
